A Call to High School Mathematics Teachers…

As you know, Washington is a Smarter Balanced state. There will be one comprehensive assessment for high school given at 11th grade.  However, in the interim years before this comprehensive assessment becomes the graduation requirement, we will be building End-of-course (EOC) exams using items from the Smarter Balanced bank. In anticipation of building the test maps for these EOC exit exams, OSPI Mathematics Assessment staff is asking for input from current teachers of Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Integrated 1, Integrated 2 and Integrated 3. Our goal is to have a general consensus as to what we believe, as a state, should be included in the above listed courses in high school. Using an variety of resources, we have done a preliminary review of the standards for each course. However, where we believe there may be some discrepancy or discussion around a particular standard or part of a standard included for a course, we are putting this before the teachers to determine where a topic or standard should fall.  The results of this task will move forward as we convene a committee of teachers to give input into the test map for the EOC exams.  Together the information from these processes will guide what standards will be tested in each of the respective EOC tests. Therefore, your input in greatly needed and valued in this process.  We ask that you take time look through the standards in question and based upon your classroom experience with students in these courses, determine in which course the standard should fall.  Also, please encourage mathematics teachers in your school to also provide feedback.  Our goal is to have as much input from Washington State teachers as possible as we move forward in this assessment process.

This moodle is designed to provide Washington State teachers with information to write items aligned to a Year 2 mathematics course (Geometry and/or Integrated Mathematics II).
